Accommodations

Exam Accommodations

Exam accommodations are available for students who need and qualify for such accommodations. Exam accommodations vary but may include:

  1. Extended testing time
  2. Quiet/distraction reduced testing area
  3. Private testing room
  4. Use of a reader or scribe
  5. Use of computer to type essays
  6. Use of assistive technology such as screen reader
  7. CCTV for text enlargement

Service and Emotional Support Animals

Service animals are welcome on campus and in student housing. However, owners are encouraged to register with DRC to establish eligibility and/or for DRC to coordinate with faculty and Housing and Resident Life department. Emotional support animals must be approved by the DRC.

Note Taking Services or Audio Recording of Classes

Note taking services are available for students who qualify. Some students may also be approved to audio record lectures. Digital voice recorders are available for students to borrow.

Materials in an Alternative Format

Course materials and textbooks in accessible formats are available for students who qualify. Alternative text formats may include books in an audio format, pdf, or text recognition software.

ASL Interpreting Services

American Sign Language interpreters are available for deaf and hard of hearing students who require the service to participate in academic and university sponsored programs.

Adaptive Equipment and Classroom Furniture

Adaptive furniture is available for students who need it for access and full participation in classroom activities.

Learning Specialist

A Learning Specialist is a professional staff member who utilizes the most up-to-date and widely researched learning technologies, strategies, and skills available to help student’s learning skills. They provide customized instructions for students with disabilities. The Learning Specialist incorporates the needs, strengths, and weaknesses into formulating a specific study plan for students with disabilities. Specialties include study skills, organization and time management.
